My Journey with Two Different Literacy’s
I have been struggling with reading and writing from what I remember. But at such a young age I did have a passion for reading until I had to learn English. Before I started learning English I had a mysterious attraction to different types of genres when it came down to books. I was born in Worcester, Massachusetts one of the coldest state ever in the winter. As I turned one my grandmother got very sick and she needed help so we ended up moving down to one of the most beautiful, tropical, friendliest island ever, Puerto Rico. I ended up living in Puerto Rico until the age of 9 meaning I started my education there from PreK-4th grade.
Most of my education was Spanish, I had no type of background of English at all but I still enjoyed reading in the Spanish language. My mom has been a huge impact in my life when it comes down to my literacy. My mom attended University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez, where she was going for

We had a school book fair, I started to notice all kinds of different books, there was a book called “La llorona” that caught my attention because we had an urban legend about a ghost lady that was called “La Llorona”. The urban legend was about a mom who lost her child and every night she would come out looking for her child. But while she is looking she would cry the whole time, but if she saw a child alone she would approach the child and end up taken the child forever. People say if you was taken by La Llorona then you would never see your family again. Weird urban legend, but it did put fear in children to make sure we weren’t outside alone at night. I really wanted this book, so I ended up purchasing it. I remember I took it home and my mom was so shocked at the book. I explained to her that I wanted to learn and figure out what happened with the Llorona, I wanted to know why she lost her child. After purchasing that book I kept a focus on mystery

I think my reading has improved because I use better vocabulary and I can understand what I am reading. The reading strategies have helped me to become a better reader. I still rely on DJE, T2T like I did when I took basic reading as well. They are very helpful strategies that help me to read better and think about what I am reading. For this and other classes my goals are to understand what I am reading and being able to sum up what I read with very little difficulty.…

Now I could lie and make up stuff that made me like reading and writing but I see no point in that. Honestly I don’t have a lot of memories of reading and writing from when I was a little kid and I can tell you now that football hasn’t helped me at remembering those memories either. With that being said I do remember some memories, some are good and also bad.…

By adding up the amount of pages that I read and dividing it by eighteen my answer is 75 pages per week. I saw an improvement in my reading because the number of pages I read in a week had increased. I am quite satisfied and this motivates me to read more. I want to tighten up my gear and raise it to at least 100 pages per week in order to achieve my wish. Usually I would have read books that are around 100 to 200 pages, but this time it is longer than usual.…

Does rejection or determination push you to go beyond the limits of what one expects of you? Most everyone would say it does, but does this only affect those of us who want to be writers? It definitely does not, nor is it limited to anyone of a particular language. People of different backgrounds, all have the same urge to learn something not entirely expected of them, even if it is just a different language. The writings of people, while very similar, have a great number of differences.…

As stated in the assignment description, literacy is entirely acquired in context. As I’ve known how to read since my early developmental years, it wasn’t that I was able to read something into much later on. Reading a novel is different from reading an article on a newspaper or online as reading a screenplay is different from reading a poem. When I first started college two years ago, I acquired an entirely new literacy of a digital artifact in a digital media class. In the class, a core project was the development of a professional personal website.…

Pivotal Moment in Literacy Development Getting my hands Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was a pivotal moment in my literacy development. I remember receiving the first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, at the age of 11 for Christmas. There were six other books that followed, all better than the last. At the pace that these books were released, they had successfully accompanied me through my critical years of development and on to adulthood. JK Rowling and her creations unknowingly gifted to me an expansive imagination, patience, and enabled me to relate to similar social issues such as racism and bigotry that were not only present in the real world, but in the Wizarding world as well.…

I have always looked at myself as a person who’s better at numbers than writing, and reading. I have never really enjoyed reading or writing, because I never been good at it. It felt like it took me forever to read a book, and that alone made me just watch a movie instead of reading a book, and that didn’t make me a better reader or writer. I was not surprised that I wasn’t good at it though, because I never practiced. Before College when I got a writing assignment, I often opened a word document, and stared at the document for ten minutes before I came up with something to write.…

Reading hasn’t always been an enjoyable pastime for me. My experiences with reading have had their ups and downs, but in the end reading has made my education hurdles a bit smaller. Beginning at an early age, my mom would read stories to me every night before bed. One of my favorites was My First Bible Stories, which was a book with my short Bible stories. Goldilocks and the Three Bears was another one of my favorite childhood books that my Mawmaw used to read to me whenever I would spend the night with her.…

My journey with English is a short one. It started in august 2009 when I started school in ISLK in Lund. I wasn’t able to speak one whole sentence in English; I felt awful, I didn’t know anything happening around me, I felt very lonely. Rose was the name of my knight in shinning armor, she was the English teacher in ISLK, and without her I don’t where I would have been right now. Two years later, English became my first language, I read in English, I wrote English, I spoke in English and I even dreamt in English.…
