The Mustafa Kemal’s principles and ideas together called Kemalism which in turn constitutes the official ideology of the state. Kemalism is designed to create a modern republican secular Turkish state out of the Ottoman Empire. The main principles of Kemalism were republicanism, nationalism, populism, state socialism, secularism, and revolutionism. The aim was to establish an extremely linguistic institution, the Turkish Language Association and Turkish Historical Society for research on Turkish language and history. After a few years Kemal adopted a law connected with surnames. His own example was one of the brightest examples of the new law. According to the new law Mustafa Kemal became Kemal Ataturk. One of the primary reforms accomplished by Kemal Ataturk was the improved condition of women in the Turkish republic. Kemal Ataturk started to support women's rights and became one of the strongest supporters. During his presidency, he did many positive changes for women. He promoted and maintained many rules and laws on behalf of the women living in Turkey. Mustafa Kemal tried to make equal the rights of males and females and in the period of 1930s, Turkish women eventually got the right to vote. This reform was one small step toward gender equality. Take into account the fact that during this period in many European developed countries females did not have the right of voting. Nonetheless, in Turkey Mustafa Kemal Ataturk established voting of women and we can claim that it was really huge accomplishment for them. Furthermore, parliament needed female delegates and in 1935, about 18 women became part of the parliament. Now year by year we see that the percentage of female political figures increase. As
