The mission of God, it is here now and moving. Missio Dei is about creating an intimate relationship with God through Christ. God’s mission is a mission of discovery, healing, and hope. God is outward looking, recognizing that with every encounter we must look outside our doors. God’s vision is Christ’s mission, our action.
The first generation theologians of the Black Liberation Theology challenged North America to see mission in new ways. Black Liberation Theology, presented mission in a way that reached out to the oppressed, the forgotten, and those who society had marginalized. Scholars such as, James Cone and J. Roberts, reminded us of the broad political and cultural currents that molded existing Christian ideals of mission. This generation created building blocks that helped North American Christians to seek a more inclusive theology. (Black Liberation 49-85) As I explored this, I recognized that God reveals Gods self and mission in ways that are unique to each cultural and racial group. Based on the context of our relationship with God we will experience our purpose uniquely given.
