Think of the Children First Before Lighting a Cigarette
It should be against the law to smoke cigarettes when you have children. People think because they go outside to smoke while their kids are in the house, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Not realizing, it is still second hand smoke. When a person smokes; the odor, toxins and chemicals are on the skin, clothes and hair. Smoking is very harmful to an adult; imagine how deadly it is to a child.
Cigarette smoke contains over 4000 compounds, many of which are extremely reactive affecting the physiology of the respiratory system and other systems in the body. 9 These include nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides. They induce inflammation within the airways and reduce oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood (Merghani, T.H., 2013). With all of the commercials on television, everyone should know the dangers with smoking cigarettes. If an adult chooses to smoke, that is completely up to them, but a child should not have to suffer because of the parent’s poor decision. Many people who smoke either thinks it does not bother the child or they know and do not care about the harm it is causing. Children spend much of their early life with their parents who may smoke, thus exposing them to prolonged close exposure to ETS. Lighting a cigarette creates over 4000 harmful chemicals with hazardous adverse effects on almost every organ in the body (El-Zayadi, 2006).
