Most plays focus on a central theme. The Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller and Antigone by Sophocles are two examples of plays which use betrayal as their central theme. Antigone is a Greek play by Sophocles. It is a Greek tragedy full of loyalty, betrayal, love and death. The play Antigone features many central themes with betrayal being the main theme of the story. The theme of betrayal is evident in the beginning of the play when the king Creon betrays his people’s faith in him, his family and his gods. Polyneices was the son of Oedipus who was king and left the kingship to Polyneices and his brother Eteocles who refused to give up the throne. Therefore, when the time for Polyneices to become king came and his brother refused to give up the throne, he raised an army attack on Thebes causing the death of the two brothers. Their uncle Creon took over the leadership because Polyneices had betrayed his people by fighting against his own people.
