This is a book that introduces the ideas of the scholar Jean-Francois Lyotard, who was a key player in the development of Post-Modern theory. The book is part of a Routledge’s’ Critical Thinkers series that is designed to introduce readers to key authors in literary studies.
This book will be useful for two reasons. Firstly, the book to an extent chronicles Lyotard’s life and his achievements as a scholar and how he has impacted on the study of modernism. Hence this information can be used as background information to briefly explain in the essay who Lyotard is and why his work is necessary in understanding what the “grand narrative”.

This source is a prescribed reading on the novel Sexting The Cherry by Jeanette Winterson. It is an excerpt from the book The Lesbian Postmodern, in particular it is a chapter written by Laura Doan.
In this chapter, Doan explores how Winterson’s incorporation and celebration of queer characters breaks down the grand narrative of “heterosexual hegemony” (138). This done by analyzing other critic’s interpretations of the novel, such as Rosllen Brown and Michael Gorra. By doing this, Doan attempts to over a balanced discussion on the postmodern techniques Winterson uses, such as intertextuality and pastiche, and her political commentary on female sexuality.
The chapter also gives details on examples of where these techniques and themes can be found in Winterson’s novel. Thus, it will be useful to read alongside the primary reading to comb for examples and quotes that can be used in the essay. Furthermore, it will be useful as a starting point for crafting the essays analysis of the
