Imagine having your whole family being humiliated on the internet and there is nothing that can be done about it. This scenario in particular happened to a family in the documentary Lo and Behold: Reveries of a Connected World. In the documentary Werner Herzog examines the digital landscape in the world. The scenario of the tragedy that happens in the documentary is explained the section “The Dark Side”. The Dark Side expresses the bad and horrible effects of the internet, which includes cyberbullying that the family faces. While Herzog’s documentary does not primarily focus on ‘The Dark Side’ section alone, it’s the most important because it can drastically change the lives of many horrendous ways. During the section ‘The Dark Section’ a family’s life was changed forever. The daughter of the family had been faced with psychotic challenges, and so one day she decided to steal her father’s car in fear of going to the doctor and ran away. Following the daughter stealing the car it resulted her being in a fatal car accident, which lead her head to almost be decapitated. While …show more content…
The releasing of the photos on the internet took the situation out of the families hands, which resulted in a terrifying outcome. According to the article “Family gets $2.4 million over grisly crash images” “In addition to proliferating on the Internet, some of the photos – accompanied by taunting messages – were sent anonymously to the parents of the dead daughter” (Hardesty). Thus, creating a huge cyberbullying issue alongside the violation of privacy faced by the family. This situation began problematic very quickly when exposed to the media, which led it to make it to the national and international news (Hardesty). Although the scenario presented in the film is not likely to happen to thousands of people, there is very many who may face this horrendous situation throughout their
