The Tragedy of Macbeth was written by William Shakespeare in the early 1600’s. Set in Scotland, Macbeth, a Scottish general and the Thane of Glamis, attempts to make his way to become the king of Scotland. Macbeth is a brave soldier and a powerful man. Although he is easily tempted into murder to fulfill his ambitions to obtain the throne, he is a noble man. Lady Macbeth is wife to Macbeth. Early in the play, Lady Macbeth seems controlling towards Macbeth, but the play goes on and she seems gentle down in her actions. Throughout the play there are many factors that lead to the outcome of Macbeth’s reign. In the Shakespearean play, The Tragedy of Macbeth, the theme of supernatural entities and their effect on human behavior is prevalent throughout; this theme occurs when the weird sisters approach Macbeth bringing uncertainty and confusion, when Banquo’s ghost takes Macbeth’s seat during the feast and also when the three apparitions predicted how Macbeth would lose his throne. In act one, the three witches approach Macbeth to dance and sing to him. They deliver the first of many prophecies he will receive. When Macbeth is attending the feast, he goes to take his seat and he sees that someone is already sitting in his seat. The ghost of Banquo is sitting in Macbeth seat. When he sees the ghost, he reacts with horror and it upsets the guests. This can be perceived as a foreshadowing event because Banquo; a dead man, is in Macbeth’s seat. If a dead man is in your seat this can mean that you are going to die soon. When Macbeth sees the ghost, he feels isolated. Only Macbeth can see Banquo’s ghost and this scares him.
