Feminism. What is thought when this word is said or heard? Perhaps the “first wave” feminists that took place in the 1800’s that fought for the major legal and societal issues faced by woman. Or maybe the more recent, third and fourth wave feminism which are very much redesigning what feminism is and what it means to be considered a person who identifies as a “feminist”. The truth is that there are many different styles and forms of feminism and different ways they can be interpreted. It is very difficult to say feminism is purely one thing or another as there are many different opinions and purposes. Though the term “feminist” and feminism emerged when the first wave started in the early nineteenth century, there were many people that observed there was a great unfairness between Men and Women much earlier than the nineteenth-century. To some, the discussion of if Christine de Pizan was a Feminist can be a big debate. One argument that Christine de Pizan was actually not a feminist is that the term “feminism” is an anachronism meaning that its a term that does not belong to that period of time, concluding that because the word is not appropriate to that time, the action of being a feminist does not exist.
