Three Educational Goals

In school, I believe that there are three essential goals that teachers and professors should strive for in their classroom. These three include: the development of rational, well-rounded individuals, the teaching of cognitive and critical thinking skills, and finally the global improvement of the quality of life. There are many other goals that should be reached, but I consider these are the three major ones. It’s hard to come by a rational human being who actually thinks about what he or she is about to say instead of blurting nonsense out of their mouths and potentially hurting someone in the process without meaning too. These three include the following: positive view of self and others, authenticity, and empathy. These three are majorly important in a teacher’s career. To have a positive view of yourself and everyone around you, will make your job so much easier. It will give you confidence, which you will need so that you will able to perform to the best of your ability. A teacher also needs to be authentic. Children as well as adults can see right through you, so being genuine is key to being great. Always treat everyone the same, regardless of race, gender, or religious beliefs, and they will treat you with respect. Lastly, you need to be empathetic. Some of our next generation of teachers are produces from our SWOSU education program, where they are taught and thrust out into the classrooms to learn and experience what and how we will be teaching our youngest generation. We are also taught through our experiences out in the field and how our involvement in the community helps build unity, such as volunteering in the Special Olympics or the Weatherford Food & Resource Center. As for cohort experiences, I am able to discuss the best possible way to shape our young ones to the best of our ability. We also talk about how our experiences throughout our observation and volunteer work mod ourselves. Service learning has helped me shape the world in some small way.
