There are positive and negative symptoms to this disease. For example, positive symptoms include having hallucinations or delusions. Hallucinations are when someone sees, hears, smells, or feels something that isn’t really there. The most common hallucination that people have is hearing voices (Bengston, M. (n.d.). Types of Schizophrenia). This is said to be a positive symptoms because they are actually “doing” things and being productive still. However negative symptoms include being withdrawn from society or unemotional to things around them. They lose concentration and interest very easily. This affects humans in a negative way because the patient is not doing anything with their lives or being productive. There are five known types of schizophrenia which are paranoid, catatonic, disorganized, undifferentiated, and residual.
