Email should make our jobs easier and be time efficient. Companies have been extensively using emails internally among employees, to connect to customers and other stakeholders. It is very cost effective as it just requires an internet connection, which most companies already provide to employees for other business needs. This explains the prevalence of emails in business today but there are other concerns that should be considered for business today. It is important to understand the effect that emails have on employee productivity, what implications exist this creates for managers today, as well as new alternatives to emails which are being explored by businesses today.

This tool has improved the efficiency for agents by lowering their handle time on a call, which is a key metric in call centers. Instant Messaging (IM) is a tool that our company has been using to answer questions within teams as well as to keep support staff informed about business challenges and any crucial business information. It allows support staff to understand what is driving call volume.
