In order to understand whether or not listening to classical music helps or hinder concentration and performance on cognitive tasks. I will be comparing the works from three well known and trusted experts who have conducted research on similar topics regarding music. The three sources I will be comparing are Sebnem Koldas the author of “The Music Therapy Session Reduces Anxiety in Patients with Stroke” a Turkish psychotherapist, Susan Snyder 's "Harvard Gazette: Music on the Brain." a professor at Harvard university and lastly "Verbal Learning in the Context of Background Music: No Influence of Vocals and Instrumentals on Verbal Learning” by Moritz Brummer, Stephanie Scherrer, and Nasreen Alahmadi scientist and psychotherapist. …show more content…
It gives an example of how music therapy is used to reduce pain in patients along with their anxiety. In addition, it showed an overwhelming drop in anxiety and stress when listening to classical music. His research could prove beneficial to my own because he found an overwhelming jump in the data with the use of the classical music to lower anxiety rather than another genre . And in her study, she discusses how playing an instrument can in return cause people to be more intelligent than those who don 't play an instrument.In the study, she conducts an experiment that shows the brain using both hemispheres when an individual plays an instrument in addition showing an increase in the reconstruction of gray matter in the brain. This article was chosen to help me conduct my own research because if playing an instrument causes both hemisphere to work together at the same time maybe listening to music while studying will have the same effect. The reason being because when you 're being creative you 're using your right hemisphere and when you 're doing this that require logic you 're using the right so if you 're doing the math and listening to music is could potentially have the same effect .
