Society should do more to protect and support victims of sexual assault. There is a large stigma surrounding. The victims’ fear of facing back-lash, slander and uncomfortable interviews by the police making them retell their trauma which can be traumatic for them. In most cases, the victims know who assaulted them. They fear that the perpetrator will harm them even more if they were to go to the police. This is one of the many reasons why sexual assault goes unreported. The perp is violent, the victim feels like it was their fault, the victim is a sex-work and people (especially the police) will automatically put them at fault. When filling a police report, its best if law enforcers do not probe the survivor with questions that will make it seem like that they are at the blame for it. The survivor’s memory may be blurry because that is what happens when such an event happens. We go into flight or fight mode or just straight up panic, our brains will release all these chemicals and make us response to get us out of that situation that is life threatening or threatening to our well-being. Law Enforcers should allow the victims to rest immediately after so that they will be able to recall what has happened. We also need longer jail time and harsher punishments for rapists. There are many of them who feel no remorse for what they have done and will do it again. They need to be stopped before they prey on someone else, longer jail sentence and once they are out they will have to live isolated from everybody else to ensure the well- being and safety of
