There has been no proof of this ever happening in any realm of time close to the American Revolution. I believe the director put this in the film to not only get a rise out of the audience, but to make the British appear as a bunch of heartless men who only seek power and victory. I have always thought The Patriot was a great film even though it had inaccurate parts. I think it is a good movie to watch for a loose look at the history or maybe just to get you pumped with patriotism. I would defiantly recommend to a friend, but not if they are expecting to get a good grasp on how things were in the American Revolution. Some movies are good to watch and get a good idea of the history behind it, but this is not one of those movies. I would say that movies are probably not the best way to learn about history, but they can sometimes help point you in the right direction.
