Historical Inaccuracies In The Patriot Directed By Roland Emmerich

The movie The Patriot was directed by Roland Emmerich. The leading roles were Mel Gibson, Heath Ledger, and Joely Richardson. In the movie The Patriot, Roland Emmerich defiantly does a great job of telling a patriotic story but fails to be completely historically accurate in telling the story. I will be showing you some of the historical inaccuracies and moments that stuck out to me in the film. The movie is about a French and Indian war hero named Benjamin Martin who had no desire to fight in the upcoming American Revolution, but due to his sons’ involvement, he quickly reconsidered this. His son Gabriel, played by Heath Ledger, enlists in the Continental Army without permission and then Benjamin’s other son, Thomas, ends up being killed …show more content…
There has been no proof of this ever happening in any realm of time close to the American Revolution. I believe the director put this in the film to not only get a rise out of the audience, but to make the British appear as a bunch of heartless men who only seek power and victory. However, many scholarly institutions have suggested that the act of the British burning down the church of innocents is far too similar for coincidence to an act that the German Nazis performed, “Meaning not only did the film paint a portrait of the British as cruel killers, it compared them to history’s worst: the Nazis.” …show more content…
I have always thought The Patriot was a great film even though it had inaccurate parts. I think it is a good movie to watch for a loose look at the history or maybe just to get you pumped with patriotism. I would defiantly recommend to a friend, but not if they are expecting to get a good grasp on how things were in the American Revolution. Some movies are good to watch and get a good idea of the history behind it, but this is not one of those movies. I would say that movies are probably not the best way to learn about history, but they can sometimes help point you in the right direction. One should always do more research on the topic at hand before going around telling people a false history they saw in a

On the grand scale though i thought the movie really was not historically accurate. I feel like it did not take them that long to decide on independance. Also some of the minor events i'm positive did not happen. But i'm sure they meant to do that so that the movie was more entertaining for the general public and not just the history buffs. But they made sure to incorporate enough real people and enough real events to i guess somewhat consider some of it accurate but not as a whole…

Vowell, tough is cloudy, still defines herself as a patriot, but as she ridicules those around her on the ways they choose to express patriotism she contradicts herself and proves to be a hypocrite. Vowell describes the time when she viewed the blockbuster “The Patriot” and the man she met a week after while she was out with some friends for dessert. Andy, the man Vowell met, described himself as “feeling jingoistic.…

"All men are created equal and have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," (Thomas Jefferson, In the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776). The American Revolutionary War is probably the greatest underdog story to ever happen in history. A group of soldiers with minimum training taking on one of the most powerful military forces at the time, sounds like a plot to a horrible movie directed by Michael Bay. It took a bunch of great people and determined leaders like George Washington and Benjamin Franklin, The colonist were able to take out the British Empire and gain independence for all.…

I believe that the Boston Massacre was a accident and that it was not meant to happen. One reason i think the boston massacre was an accident is because the colonist were yelling “fire, fire” and by that some of the colonist thought that there captain had said fire and that's why they fired at the colonist.
