This is an effect of the rising popularity in organ trafficking. Explained by Sarah Glazer, transplant tourism is “a person from a wealthier country traveling to an impoverished country in search of a desired organ.” Patients go to the hospitals in which doctors have solicited organs from the population of that specific poor country. This makes the tracking of illegal organs nearly impossible as the people who are responsible for the safety and legality of the organ (the doctors) are making money from the transaction. This is a similar situation to the cops getting paid to “be quiet” about a crime.
