Types of monsters and animals include Centaurs, Chimeras, Empousas, Harpies, Hippalektryons, Hippocampi, Kobaloi, Manticores, Minotaurs, Mormo, Lamia, Ophiotaurus, Sirens, Taraxippi, Telekhines, Griffins, Pegasus, Phoenix, Spinx, and Stymphalian Birds. Centaurs have the legs and back of a horse and the head and torso of a man. Chimeras have three heads, the fore-parts of a lion, the middle parts of a goat, and a snake as a tail. Empousas are seductive demon vampires with a bronze leg and a donkey foot. Harpies are winged monsters, the head and torso of a woman and the rest is a bird. Hippalektryons have the body of a horse and the fore-parts of a rooster. Hippocampi live in the sea and have the fore-parts of a horse and the tail of a fish. Kobaloi are mischievous creatures who like to trick humans. Manticores have the body of a lion, a mans head, and a tail that can shoot spikes. Minotaurs have the body of a man, the head of a bull, and sometimes the legs of a goat. Mormo are vampire-like creatures who bite children. Lamia are similar to Mormo, they preyed on children. Ophiotaurus are part serpent and part bull. Sirens are sometimes seen as mermaid-like women and some stories say they are bird-like, but either way they were irresistible to sailors and they would lure them to their death with song. Taraxippi are just ghosts that would frighten horses. Telekhines have dog heads, seal flippers for hands, and were skilled metal workers. Griffins have the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. Pegasus are pure white winged horses. Phoenix are golden-red birds that burst into flames at the end of their life then is reborn from the ashes. Sphinx have the hindquarters of a lion, bird wings, and a womans face. However, the list of all books and movies that have used mythological creatures is too great to even imagine. A few of these books and movies include The Lord of the Rings series, the Percy Jackson series, Thor, Epic, the Mortal Instruments series, Oz the Great and Powerful, Rise of the Guardians, Jack and the Giant, the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Wrath of the Titans, Jules Verne’s Mysterious Island, The Dragon Pearl, Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, the Harry Potter series, Shrek, The Spiderwick, Clash of the Titans, Aquamarine, Ella Enchanted, How to Train Your Dragon, Eragon, Santa Clause 3, The Little Mermaid, and Tinker Bell. Some of these books/ movies have more references to mythological creatures than others but they all have either mentioned mythological creatures or have mythological creatures as some of their characters. As said before, these are only a small few of the many books and movies that have what mythological creatures. In conclusion, there are numerous mythological creatures and countless movies and books to show them. There are several types of mythological creatures including monsters, animals, giants, dragons, and automatons. All of these together make up the creatures that have been seen in many movies and read about in numerous books.
