The Metamorphosis is a short novel that was published in 1915 even though it was written in 1912. The novel is considered by many people a literary piece of art and Kafka best work. The novel is one of a few pieces of works that were finished by Franz Kafka. He had many pieces of literature published against his wishes after he died. The novel also has had several different things people find different about a normal novel. The first thing that was different was the translation from Middle German to English a lot of things did not translate correctly. Another difference was making the impossible happen when he had Gregor transformed into an insect. This is showing the alienation and the holed up way that Gregor was in his own house and traveling business man. People see the transformation of Gregor from a man into an insect which are inferior and often killed by man as being looked upon by his father a failure and his isolation from the rest of the world. (The Metamorphosis) Another thing is that once Gregor got transformed he was no longer able to communicate with his family. Kafka was a believer that the essence of a human was our ability to communicate with others. Kafka was in a special place with his writing that few could understand with him being a Prague Jewish writer. (Breckman) Franz had a job for a government insurance agency, which had him traveling a lot. He gives the main character in the novel a job as a traveling salesman. Gregor had the job to repay the debt that the family owed and was never happy at the place of employment. Franz had a law degree and a job as a legal clerk to make his father happy with him and not see him as a failure anymore. (Batson) Franz was the main money maker when he lived with his family till the age of thirty. Gregor was paying back a debt the family owed and making sure his family had enough to live on, while he was living at home when not traveling. Gregor would die an early death due to the father.
