The Iroquois Confederacy is a military union that coincides with the Iroquois League. The Iroquois Confederacy became allies with the British forming the Covenant Chain. During war between the British and French, The Iroquois Confederacy fought against the French and those who were allies with them including the Three Fires Confederacy. The Three Fires Confederacy was made up of the Ojibwe, Ottawa, and Potatwatomi tribes. The Iroquois Confederacy and the Iroquois League became separate groups after they were not able to agree on their stance during the American Revolution. Longhouses were dwellings with frames made of elm-wood covered in elm back. Six to ten families could live in each longhouse which could be up to 130 feet long and 16 feet wide. In a large longhouse, there could be 20 apartments each with a fireplace, reed mats, and skins.
