George W. Bush sent an invasion to Iraq with only Congress approving his “Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002”. When Bush sent his request to Congress for the authorization of military force in Iraq, he misled congress about Iraq’s possession of weapons of mass destruction. He claimed that they had “vast stockpiles of chemical weapons”. He also left out key words that were used by his intelligence agency. Had he used these words, many doubts would have been made on his assertions, therefore, he misled Congress (The Iraq War is Illegal). After having the authorization from Congress, they required that Iraq must have shown to be threat to the United States and he also needed to have a resolution from the United Nations Security Council. Bush announced war on Iraq on March 2003 without the two, which were required.
In an interview broadcast for NBC’s Meet the Press, Bush said that he had gone to war with Iraq based on the information he had about Saddam at the time, which was, their possession of weapons of mass destruction. Later in the interview, he speculated the possibilities of what could have happened to the weapons. He said that “they could have been destroyed during the war. Saddam and his henchman could have destroyed them as we entered into Iraq, they could be hidden. They could have been transported to another country and we’ll find out.” (Iraq War was Justified- Bush).
