Wind Energy Vs Fossil Fuels

Superior Essays
Wind energy should be used instead of fossil fuels. The demand for wind energy is increasing so the number of wind turbines needs to increase to keep up with the global demand. Wind energy costs are lower than the cost of fossil fuels. There are several reasons to choose wind energy over fossil fuels. There are many types of renewable energy sources, but wind energy is the energy resource of the future. The demand for wind energy is increasing, so this means that the number of wind turbines needs to increase. The wind turbines are what produces the energy that comes from the wind rotating the wind turbines, without these there would be no way to capture the energy produced by the wind to use it at as the need arises. Wind is a renewable resource that is free, clean, and abundant. In the article “Meeting the world’s energy needs entirely with wind, water, and solar power.” Delucchi, Mark A. and Mark Z. Jacobson explain, “In a world powered entirely by wind, water, and sunshine, energy could be delivered as reliably as it is today, but at a lower cost than in a business usual world”. (30). Wind energy is superior to fossil fuels like coal because coal has to come from a mine. In that mine the company owners have to pay many workers to go in and get the coal, then have to pay to ship it by truck or train to wherever it is needed to produce energy. Coal is also much more dangerous to deal with than wind energy because with coal there is always a chance of fire and in the process of mining there is always the chance of the mine collapsing and killing the people in it. Another type of fossil fuel is natural gas. Wind energy is superior to natural gas because natural gas comes from the ground and needs to be pumped out of the earth and shipped by truck to its user. This shows that because wind doesn’t need to be mined, pumped, or shipped, it is less expensive and less time consuming than natural gas. In the article “A World of Wind” Tanti, Tulsi says “As an energy resource, wind is among the most inexpensive source of clean and renewable energy available today” …show more content…
This type of wind energy is called off-shore wind energy. Off-shore wind energy is growing rapidly in almost every developed country such as the United States and China. Off-shore wind energy is exactly what its name suggests, wind turbines off the coast standing in the water. In the article “The Growth of Offshore Wind and the world” Dorothy D. Ballard explains “Offshore wind represents about two percent of global installed energy capacity, but the number is expected to increase rapidly” (3) this shows from a professional in off-shore wind energy’s stand point that the expectations of off-shore wind is high and will more than likely take off in the near future do to the fact that wind energy is becoming such an important resource and needs to keep up with the global

Furthermore, it will cause noise pollution and affect both the natural scenery and ecosystem. Apparently, after weighing the pros and cons, wind energy does not look very appealing to us. Nonetheless, until recently, a new type of wind energy generator called airborne wind turbine is invented. It is such an epoch-making innovation that it addresses all the problems of the ground-based windmill.…

Critique of “Wind Power Puffery” In his article, “Wind Power Puffery”, H. Sterling Burnett argues that the advantages of wind power are grossly exaggerated and often cause more harm than good. Burnett, an expert in America on environmental issues, has obtained a Ph.D. in philosophy and a B.A. in cultural anthropology. He mainly writes opinion based articles about current environmental and energy topics and wrote this article to express his opinion on wind generated energy. Supporters of using wind energy in place of burning fossil fuels claim that relying on wind power will decrease air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, which Burnett strongly disagrees with.…

The problem with fossil fuels is they are not renewable, create air pollution, contribute to climate change, and damage the earth. In the article “Climate Change, Effects of” Richard and Mary Snow believe, “the negative effects of climate change will affect all aspects of society and the natural environment” (271). The future seems to be in alternative, renewable energy sources. The most common are wind and solar. This essay will focus on wind and solar.…

No hauling the coal to the power plant to burn the coal . This means the cost of the energy is less because we only have to pay a little bit to a couple people to maintain the wind turbine . This is also a bad thing because it is taking jobs away from a lot of people .The truck drivers wouldn 't have any jobs.…

What the frack? Why is fracturing, better known as fracking, for natural gas is deprecated in the United States? After all, it is called “natural” (ironically speaking). Natural gas is a much more appropriate alternative method for weaning off of fossil fuels and into renewable resources. I graduated from Wilmington Early College High School and am currently a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.…

On windy days, energy can be used in an increased abundance. A notable example of this case was in Spain; in 2010, Spain experienced a particularly windy year, so wind power accounted for 16.6 percent of the national net power consumption (Leung and Yang, 2012). India has also incorporated renewable wind energy resources into their economy; this action has landed them in fifth place amongst the other wind using countries. Ultimately, the countries illustrated above show that wind power is well distributed across the world; both developing and developed countries are involved in the switch to a more ‘green’…

Due to the advancements in modern technology and society, there are innumerable amounts of ways to fuel and support a population efficiently. Some of these innumerable ways include fossil fuels and renewable energy. Fossil fuels are defined as a natural fuel, such as coal or gas, formed in the geological past from the remains of living organisms. Renewable energy is defined as energy from a source that is not depleted when used, such as wind or solar power. Fossil fuels and renewable energy both provide energy in the form of electricity, however these different forms come at different costs.…

We have to implement renewable energy sources such as sunlight, wind, rain, waves, and geothermal heat and substitute fossil fuels we use for them. Renewable Energy policy Network for the 21st century[REN21](4 September, 2014) explains that renewable energy amounted to 19 percent to humans ' global energy consumption in 2012 and occupies 22 percent of released electric energy in 2013. In addition, they also show that advanced countries invest developing renewable energy more than US$214 billion in 2013…
