The struggle these people faced was immensely tragic many people would get beat up for just being black or others would get bullied for being in the “contrary” side, which meant being in the activist’s side. The freedom riders way of living was devastating and tragic. After living so many cruel experiences. Eventually these people burst in outrage. Instead of a violent outburst, they decided to lead more towards becoming rebels and braking the rules to tempt or challenge local laws. For example, in many restaurants whites were held accountable for the well-conditioned tables, meals, menus, fine wines etc. while the blacks were basically comforted with the opposite; poor meals, drinks, tables, restrooms, water fountains etc. certainly this was not the way a human being deserved to live and now the activists were tired of living this way. Little by little many started to rebel against these rules and decided that the black deserved a well menu, fountain, drink, and luxury. The whites started to rebel as well at the time being in contact with any black or the mixture of black and whites was not permitted it was basically a sin to combine these two human beings. When the first bus reached Anniston on May 14, mobs of white men were waiting at the terminal. The men were armed with weapons, including guns, clubs, chains, and knives. Unsure of what might happen to them, many of the Freedom Riders wrote out their wills or put notes in their clothing to help identify them if they were injured or killed. Which was a good idea, because once they were beaten many of the family members of those who were being beaten they couldn’t recognize them because their faces where that messed up.
The riders didn’t fight back when they were being beaten, some would get arrested, but they didn’t mind that as well. They agreed on serving the time, and they didn’t disagree, however, as time passed the jails were getting more and more full from other free rider, that’s when the Interstate Commerce Commission announced that the terminals would be desegregated.
