In the religion of Islam, muslims strongly believe in the curse of the evil eye. The curse of the evil eye is referred to as “Nazar” by most Muslims. It is so significant to them because it is discussed by their messenger Ibn ‘Abbas in the Muslim book. He says “The influence of an evil eye is a fact; if anything would precede the destiny it would be the influence of an evil eye…”. [Sahih Muslim book 26, Hadith number 5427]. Muslims protect themselves from the evil eye by wearing an amulet. It's any form of jewelry such as a necklace, anklet, or a bracelet. It is an eye that they believe to protect them from the evil eye. It comes in many different forms. It is generally blue and white. Shaped like an eye thought to ward off the curse of the evil eye. Muslims also have many prayers that they recite which are believed to protect them and their loved ones from the curse. The only cure for the curse of the evil eye or “Mal de ojo” is “Curandero”. “Curandero” is performed by a folk healer. They use a raw egg to heal a person from the curse of the evil eye. They pass the raw over the person that is affected. The egg is believed to ingest to bad spirits of the curse of the evil eye and heal the person. After that, the egg is wrapped in straw and place under the persons head overnight. The next morning, the egg is cracked open by the healer and examined to see if the treatment worked. The shape of the yolk can also let them know what the gender of the person giving the evil eye is. One other tradition believed to heal the curse of the evil eye by the Hispanics is for a “superior” person to put their hand over the forehead of the person affected by the curse and they will be healed.
