“The individual does not have the power to change a sign in any way once it has become established in the linguistic community; I mean that it is unmotivated, i.e. arbitrary in that it actually has no natural connection with the signified…” (Lemert, 2013, p. 116).
Actually I don 't agree on this, I believe that the individual is the highest value, the freedom of him is of the highest. Always the individual is ignored in favour of the group and has no value, and this is the good reason for the individual because the individual is the seed of rebellion. It is not surprising that if we want to do an evil act is much easier in group than through individual, through the awareness and consciousness. A free individual makes a society, …show more content…
Emile Durkheim (1912). Actually there is difference between the self and ego, everybody is born with the self but not with an ego, the ego is developed since we are related to our surroundings, like the society, the first awareness comes with an ego when we are separated from our parents as example, we begin aware of the "I" but not of the self, here comes the feeling of separation which gives the feeling of ego, by this feeling, ego takes the place of the self. Here ego goes on growing, so we can see here that society needs us as an ego not as a self. The society is not interested in us as a self, but only as ego, a machine, to be controlled and directed, the self is rebellion by its awareness and consciousness of the value that is meant to be, the free self. As much we go deeper in the ego as much we go deep in darkness, everything becomes related to the ego, our names, religion, education, relations, family, country, all these are identified by the ego and become part of it. But the self is free it doesn 't belong to any of those, the self is pure the self is freedom; it is not like the ego a buy product. Jesus Christ said: "You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother 's eye." Matt. 7:5. Individual did exist before any society or any religion or any theory. The main value is of the individual. So what exists is the individual. Individual is the seed, is the roots is the center navel of life, from here I believe that sociology begins from the wrong end. It starts studying social relationships amongst the societies, amongst individuals. But they never bother about studying the individual, who is the root source of all the relationships, of all the societies, of all the cultures that have happened or ever will happen. Studying a society is like studying a rotary club which has no soul, it is just a club where people meet. And up to now sociology has not yet become a science. It pretends to be a science, it is not, for the simple reason that it has not started from the right point. The right point is the individual. It seems they are ignoring the individual because the fear from failure about beginning with the individual, because there are millions of individuals in the world, and every individual is unique. It seems easier to take them as a whole and just study from the outside how the whole functions. It can’t be like this. If it were a mechanical thing, the sociologist would have succeeded. But it is not a mechanical thing. We are humans; it is not that the individuals are quantities or parts of the society. They are the Society; society has no
