Unemployment Insurance is used to protect workers and their families from loss of income due to retirement, disability, or death. The unemployment is sometimes referred as UI, but in plain terms this insurance serves two purposes. The first purpose is it helps unemployed workers with cash assistance to take of basic needs. The second purpose is to provide cash during high employment to stabilize the economy. In our proposal, we would show the ups, down and what we feel is the unfairness with this unemployment insurance. However, the problem with this insurance is that, it does not cover the basic needs of a family household. This insurance is not available to all people who have lost their job. The proposal will be considerate of how the money or benefits are distributed. The proposal will no longer carry the numbers of quarters worked by the employee and the waiting process would be shorter. The moment a worker is out of a job benefits, weekly benefits will be administered because no matter how long a worker is out of a job the bills still roll on. The proposal will distribute to part-time employees and self-employed. Workers are workers and if one group is getting assistance, then surely the others should get it as well. It would be difficult to run a household on $235.00 dollars a week with a family of three children. Education would be an added excess to keep families from fallen into poverty because the lack of human capitol. According to Shaefer H. Luke, “Monetary eligibility is based on earnings from a period that ended as much as six months prior to job separation (2010)”. To bring this issue before any board, we will be getting the actual recipients who have received or waiting to receive benefits, the homeless who became a victim after a job lost displacement workers who need extension benefits beyond the extended period. The state representatives will be added for approval to proceed with this proposal and the government as well for grant writing. The possibility of one to stop this proposal would be the claims that Mississippi does not have the funding, the fact this proposal could take decades to pass a law for change in unemployment, or these laws are already implemented.
