How will seeking the DNP enhance my professional goals?
I am delighted in my career as a professional nurse and seeking the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) gives me the opportunity to expand my knowledge base in order to practice at a higher level, and obtain the terminal degree in my profession. My goal is to become an adult nurse practitioner, with primary focus to improve the practice of nursing. The Doctor of Nursing Practice will equip me with knowledge and skills needed to understand and appreciate research and facilitate the process of putting evidence into practice, with the overall goal of achieving improve patient safety, satisfaction and outcomes. Minorities, low income Americans, and people in rural America continue to suffer the most from chronic and preventable diseases because of inadequate access to primary care providers. These are the people, these are the life stories and experiences that is pushing me to seek the Doctor of Nursing Practice and looking forward to serve high quality compassionate nursing care. The community clinics, the elderly in nursing homes, and providing health care in rural America and remote villages in third world country, will be ideal practice settings for me I was also inspired by my mother who is a missionary trained nurse in Cameroon. When I graduated from high school, my goal was to become a nurse but the reality in my country of origin did not fare well with my ambition. At the time there was just one medical and nursing school in the country, admitting about 100 students annually. When I migrated to the United States in 2001, I did not waste any time to reset my ambition to become a nurse. It is this path that I have been pursuing since then, starting as a certified nursing assistant, an associate degree registered nurse, and a baccalaureate nurse.
