In this event, I was asked to help out and teach didactics with short notice for a semester and I was not specifically prepared for this educational role because my background is mainly clinical. It was problematic for me because it 's something different from what I 'm teaching and I needed more time to prepare for lecture to provide quality education. Since I have my regular office job, the lack of time made teaching challenging than the clinical because of time and preparation. However, I was able to apply Boyer 's scholarship of integration (Finke et. al, p.7) by mixing my lecture with my clinical experience from critical care and emergency room (ER). The students were able to understand more of the theory because I was able to connect the dots from theory to practice. Therefore, I believe that I could have done a better job teaching if I was mentored correctly as an Adjunct faculty for this specific class but as an educator, one must adopt to the challenge. The doctorate degree in nursing would expand my ability to be an effective educator because DNP is considered a practice doctorate and is inclusive of all advanced nursing practice roles: nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, nurse anesthetist, and clinical nurse specialist, as well as nurse administrator, nurse educator, and nurse policy expert. As a future DNP scholar, educator and a leader, I can bridge and narrow the gap between research and practice by using EBP to achieve the clinical effectiveness and benefit of the research (Burson et. al, p.60-73). Moreover, my role as a DNP leader at Kaiser Permanente would prepare me for the needed knowledge and skills to translate EBP into practice by improving the process that would benefit the much needed change in our health care system. These changes would not only promote cost savings but also improving health care.
