Since interview is essential for thorough evaluation and proper diagnosis (Boissonnault, 2011, p.53), most of the time, other medical professional commend me for getting such important information. And I thank my parents for letting me value people, showing kindness and making sure everything is being taken care of, which, falls under the meaning of compassion/ caring as per APTA (2003a). You can learn skills and gain knowledge but the values instill within will always affect your behavior, which will mostly affect your outcome in everything you do (Bezner, 2004). Since I am guilty about being socially irresponsible, to counteract it, during my lunch breaks, grocery shopping events and vacation times, whenever possible, I always educate other people about proper ergonomics in pushing the cart, proper posture and basic stretching while watching baseball, hockey etc., and just mere talking and assisting people whenever I can. Even though I don’t know who these people are, I can educate them promoting well-being. By showing that I care, and, based from my experience, once they see that I am competent and I know what I am doing, most of them ask me if I am a doctor. I always advise them that I am a physical therapist and how physical therapy can promote proper function and wellness. Using my ability to connect to other people by showing care and compassion, I can promote the profession since, who knows? Maybe one day, somewhere out there, without me knowing, I might be able to educate a legislator or a relative/friend of his, I may cause a big impact on him and it might be a turning point for the legislation to push through with what we are fighting for. However, I still know that I should be politically active in promoting what we are fighting for, that is direct access. I know I should read more about updates, and that is what I will try to
