In William Shakespeare’s literature, he focuses on a variety of important relationships. These relationships vary from a relationship with a sibling, a friend, a lover, and even a parent(s). In Shakespeare’s famous play, Romeo and Juliet, our attention is brought to the intense relationship between the two protagonists, but while doing so we are drawn to their relationship with their parents as well. While reading this three-act play, our attention is brought to three key events that occur between the older generation and the younger generation. Throughout the play, the author touches on the concern Lady and Lord Montague, Romeo 's parents, share for their son when they are aware of the trouble he is in. In addition, we gain a better insight

However, once Lord and Lady Montague interact with their son, they make it very clear that they have been secretly observing him and are deeply concerned about his well-being. In the beginning of the play, Romeo 's mother and father discuss the unusual change in Romeo 's behaviour. After a minor argument between the two families, Montague and Capulet, the Lady and the Lord begin to discuss their son 's unusual change in behaviour. Lord Montague reacts the way any caring and loving father would, he addresses his confusion and sympathy for his son 's newfound depression, ¨Away from light steals home my heavy son, And private in his chamber pens himself, Shuts up his windows, locks fair daylight out,¨ (I, i, 134-136). Romeo has been locking himself away in his room, and is not looking to confide in anyone, he seems as if he would rather be alone with his thoughts, which causes his father to be very distraught. During Act 5, we are shown how intensely Romeo’s actions and faults affect his parents. After hearing about Romeo’s recent banishment, Lord and Lady Montague become deeply distressed, so much that Lady Montague actually dies after hearing the upsetting news. “Alas, my liege” declares Lord Montague, “my wife is dead to-night; Grief of my son 's exile hath stopp 'd her breath” (V, iii, 210-211).
