The first plan of action should be to gain a “bachelor 's degree in psychology or a closely related field such as sociology” (Clinical Psychologist Career”). Although a master’s degree is almost always needed in programs, if someone has an outstanding educational record they are not always required to get one. In order to be a licensed clinical psychologist, you must have a doctorate degree that will take four to five years to accomplish. Two major skills needed would be speaking and active listening. In order to give a client information that they need, a clinical psychologist has to be able to speak clearly so the client can understand all the information they are being told. Without being able to actively listen, a clinical psychologist would not be able to understand the problems their client has. Giving attention to the client, taking time to understand the client 's points in a discussion, and not interrupting at unnecessary times are all apart of being an active listener. Social perceptiveness is a very necessary skill because being aware and understanding of clients reactions is a big step on finding a treatment or diagnosis. Complex problem solving and critical thinking are two more skills a clinical psychologist needs. These skills are needed in order to find what is wrong with a client in a quick period of time. “Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience” (“Clinical Psychologist”). Clinical psychologists needs to write information to their clients in a way they can understand yet is still professional. Reading Comprehension is another skill needed so that clinical psychologists can understand what they are reading in work related documents.Without these skills, clinical psychologists would never be able to help in the desired
