Personal Narrative Essay: A Trip To The Big Apple

The lovely skyscrapers, all the people, all the taxis, all the fashion, and all the landmarks; I am just reminiscing about the time I took a trip to the Big Apple. It was one of the best things I ever experienced. My dad took me and my sister to the wonderful city of New York for my 16th birthday. Since I wanted to fit in with New York’s fashion, I decided to wear a fluffy, white fur coat with heavy Timberlands. Before we arrived at the Big Apple, we had to go through the Atlanta airport. Our flight was delayed, and it was a very tedious wait. I felt sweat drenching my socks and running down my forehead. I just took a moment to imagine a cool breeze blowing across my face if I had not worn the fur coat and the Timberlands. However, the thought …show more content…
She concealed herself by walking very briskly with her head down and acting as if she were on the phone. My sister and I were star-struck; we soon regretted not stopping her to take a picture. Shortly after, it was finally time for us to board the plane. I was given an offer to ride first class since it was my birthday. However, I declined since it was my first time flying, and I did not want to separate from my family. The site made me want to make a change in the world and provide the homeless with shelter and food. Seeing their ripped and frayed clothes made me realize how fortunate I was. I did not have any money at the time, but my sister would give them some of the money that she had. Moving away from the bad parts of New York, we visited many astonishing landmarks, such as the Statue of Liberty, Madison Square Garden, the Empire State Building, the Rink at Rockefeller Center, and Madame Tussauds.
Speaking of Madison Square Garden, across from it was my deceiving hotel. When I entered the lobby of the hotel, it looked very luxurious and full of intricately designed, polished furniture. However, the rooms were a different story. My jaws dropped when I stepped into the room, and my eyes popped out of my head. I was shocked by what I saw, for my dad paid a colossal amount of money for the room. There were holes and cracks in the wall, and the bed looked broken down; the site just made me squeamish. On a happier note, the next day I actually visited Madison Square Garden. As I was given a tour, I came across an interesting item on the wall. I saw a huge, white, size 14 converse hanging up…

My childhood in New York City was very difficult for me. I grow up in a predominantly Hispanic Dominican decent neighborhood in the upper Manhattan area called Washington Heights. Washington Heights in the early 1990’s was the heart of the drug trade. At one point in the 1990’s it was considered one of the worst neighborhoods to raise a child. I remember in the news, the news anchor reported that New York City was recognized as the crime capital in the 1950's through the early 1990's.…

New York otherwise known as the “Big Apple” is home to approximately 19.7 million people. In a closer lense, New York City is home to 8.4 million people. Everytime I go to New York I always spot the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center. For seven summers I went to Camp Matoaka in Maine, each year I would return to the same smiling faces. These familiar faces were always close to my heart, however they were not always in reach.…

In the past, Surina’s kinetic pace never allowed her enough time for breakfast other than a hasty granola bar before frantically rushing off to the hospital. In contrast, today she luxuriated in a proper full English breakfast.…

Directly outside the entrance of the airport I was entranced. Leaving a skyline of dying trees and brisk weather and entering a bright flourishing tropic was a sight of wonderland. I fell in love immediately, the sun was high and bright, and the view was green, full of mountains in the horizon, just out of reach. Mother and I had heard all sorts of things from the neighbors about a place called Ellis island about how heavenly the place was said to be, and about how bad it could be If one was to say the wrong thing. Me and mother barely had enough to support ourselves, so it took quite a while before we were able to get enough money to go.
