Register to read the introduction… According to a survey about parents in relation to their children taking cell phones to school, “ninety-nine percent want to be able to contact their children, and have their children contact them via cellphone in an emergency” (Hamilton 38). If something happened at school, no one would know about it. A students’ life could be at stake. Cellphones provide a sense of security to the student by allowing them to contact anyone at any time. If a bullied student in pain needed to contact his parents, he could do so. Likewise following an emergency, “parents are shaken and unsure of their child's whereabouts or safety” (Anderson). The student could have been injured and if they were, the parent needs to know as soon as possible. Other kids may have been emotionally distressed and need to talk to their parents about what just happened. Massive confusion may cause the student to become lost. With a cellphone, a simple call can let the parent pick up their child. When driving to school, “if a students’ car battery dies... a cellphone makes it easy to call his parents for help” (Soloway). There would be no way for the student to get home without making a simple call to his or her parent of a tow-truck. If the student had a cellphone, a quick call can get the car started quickly so they can return home. The student feels secure knowing that in emergencies, he only needs to call someone and it will be dealt with. Cellphones in school can be used as great study tools to increase knowledge. and help in times of emergencies. Although they are viewed as distractions, they benefit students in multiple ways. Schools around the world are starting to look at the positive side of having cellphones and implementing them in school.
