Waking up to see a wall, living with the pain of knowing that my father and brother are gone, knowing that I could be next. The world I lived in was a sorrowful place. I never saw my mother, she was always away at the border patrolling for trespassers; but when she was home, she was too tired to even talk to me. So, I had to fend for myself. Every day I got up, got dressed, and walked to school. On the way to school, sometimes I picked up breakfast, but usually I wasn't hungry enough to eat. School was always a blur. “Soldier,” the colonel warned as she pulled out her gun and aimed it at my mom, but my mom stayed still.
-“Max we need to go, now” Milo whispered urgently
-“ No --” I snapped
-“No Max, we need to go” Milo grabbed my hand and started running . I turned around to look at my mom; she was lying on the ground, lifeless. I could feel the anger swelling in my body. My eyes are blurring and all I can think about was how she was my only family left, and now she was gone. Max and I ran. I watched his face go pale when he saw his mother get carried away.
“This is all my uncle’s fault” I thought. When we made it to the nearest building, we leaned up against the wall to catch our breath.
“ Max” I sighed “I'm so sorry.” He looked up at me and then looked away. I wasn't really sorry though, I had no idea what it was like to have family. We sat in silence, looking at the tall buildings in front of us. I examined the crystal glass; the silky clouds reflecting on each perfect piece. If only life was that
