However Nichols believes that the slave narratives should also be taken into account rather than the other Southern writings that are untrue. This statement of Nichols is debated about by many who support the confederate romances and such. People like Harrington try to show that the South isn't a bad place and tries to contradict everything that Nichols believed in. Through much research, it can be understood that the slave narratives are reliable since the experience has made such a great effect on the slaves that they would remember. With this research and many others, they were able to confirm that the majority of the southerners were abusive while only some were kind and caring. Even though there are many who believe that slavery was damaging, others still believe that the South did nothing wrong. It did give insight on the feelings and the point of views of both the South and the North. The introduction was intriguing because the thesis and the introduction makes the readers want to know how the South tried to manipulate people’s thinking on the issue of slavery. It would have been easier to understand the concept if a definition and more explanation of the confederate romance was given in the term paper. Not only that, but also a definition and explanation of antebellum south would have also been helpful in understanding as a reader. He spent a lot of time explaining how the North felt, and that contradiction to the South is well exhibited. More explanation about the South and its feelings would have been helpful towards the thesis. Through his writing, he was able to persuade and show how the South tried to convince the people that slaves weren’t treated badly and that all Southerners are kind and caring and nothing like the slave narratives depict
