Modern Technology In Look Up, By Gary Turk

Look up is a very inspirational poem written by Gary Turk about the technology around us. The message of the poem is to not get rid of technology but not to let technology control our lives. The two main ideas in the poem are that teenagers are too addicted to social media and how today’s generation is getting influenced by technology.

The first idea implements that us as teenagers are addicted to social medias such as facebook, Instagram etc. These social media platforms connect us with so many people through the so called machine of technology. We are tricked into believing that strangers are our friends because we add so many random people without knowing who they are and where they are from. The poet says “When I was a child, I would never be home, I’d be out with my friends, on our bikes we would roam”. I agree with Gary because when I was child I had no phone or any access of technology. I grew up with the real fun of life by spending time with my family and friends. As poet mentioned in the poem, we’d build our own clubhouse, high up in the trees. This reminds me of my childhood because I also used to make tents from the bedsheets with my friends and pretend that it's our own house. I have so many memories from my childhood such as playing with plastics tea cups and drinking water assuming it's a tea and a coffee. Playing with mud by making furniture with clay, making dessert with mixing some water in the biscuit etc. This made me think more about how our lifestyle has changed, I personally think that I had a better life when I was a child because I had more fun and I used to spend time with real people. And when students lack at potential and initiative, laziness plays a major role and this is when technology encourages the negligence of such students. I am referring to plagiarism. Today's generation is dependent on technology, especially school students. Student finds it much easier to copy and paste in other words plagiarised from internet instead of utilizing their own particular brain. Some students does this because they are being lazy to develop an original thought and sometimes they leave their work for last minute so that they copy others ideas from the internet without realising that they stealing others ideas which causes problem
