Teamwork In Health Care

Teamwork is defined as a vehicle through which teams work on complex tasks requiring dynamic exchange of resources, coordination of effort and adaptation to changing situational factors.1 In the medical profession, a good teamwork is a necessity to bring out a great outcome and this can be fostered through good communication skills. There are two different types of communication; verbal and non- verbal, and they are delivered in a variety of ways. Communication is vital in various fields, including medicine, in which better communication can bring out excellent medical service and patient satisfaction. Good communication skills help to deliver information to patients and between medical and health professionals efficiently. Just imagine the feelings of the people that have to go through the consequences made by the gossip. If we are able to put ourselves in their shoes, we will understand that it will upset their feelings and they will lose their self-esteem and confidence. Consequently, they will be embarrassed to show up in public and try to isolate themselves from others. I have seen people who had to suffer from psychological distress and were traumatized as they were too worried to be judged by other people. Such people are often difficult to trust others and they prefer to be just by themselves. On the other hand, gossiping about other team members can destroy team spirit and break apart the relationship between teammates. Therefore, gossiping should be avoided, especially in the workplace, where professionalism should essentially be taken into account.
