Special educators of students with emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) must exhibit a high level of patience in the classroom. Teacher behavior is a contributing factor to students' behavior whether positive or negative. As classroom managers, teachers are best suited to handle students with EBD when they have adequate educational training, a proper comprehension of the behavior disorders, and the characteristics of each for students with EBD. Teachers with lower educational levels have more severe observed behavioral problems for students in their classroom than those with higher educational levels (Stormont, Reinke, & Herman, 2011). These students also blurt out answers before questions have been completed, or interrupt and intrude on others' conversations, and often have difficulty waiting their turn. Kauffman and Landrum (2013) explain severe and chronic problems in regulating attention and activity are now commonly known as attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) as prevailing opinion is that hyperactivity usually, but not always, accompanies attention deficit, resulting in the combined diagnosis termed ADHD. ADHD is the most widely used term for disorders of attention and activity despite tremendous controversy surrounding the topic of its definition; it is also imbricated with learning disabilities and EBD with specific concerns for regulation of attention, cognition, motivation, and social behavior. Conceptualizations of ADHD place problems with behavioral inhibition, executive function, time awareness and management, and goal-directed behavior as the primary behavioral problems of ADHD, although the psychiatric classification includes predominately inattentive type, predominately hyperactive-impulsive type, or combined type (Hallahan, Kauffman, & Pullen, 2009). Approximately three to seven percent of all the school-aged children population in the United States is diagnosed with ADHD, especially boys, who outnumber girls in diagnoses.
