Student Teacher Relationship Essay

2. Student-teacher relationships-To improve my student-teacher relationship the first thing I will do is get to know my students. I need to find out what they like and dislike, and become approachable. This will help me and the student in the long run because we will have some goodwill built with each other, and they may be able to come to me with personal issues that are hindering their learning. The second thing I would do is listen to my students. It is a sort of dictatorship in the classroom as a teacher, but I feel it is important for students to have some say, or at least feel that they have some say in what we are doing. If they have a problem with something either academically or with school policy they can address the class. This shows …show more content…
Your view of students’ abilities- the first thing I would do for this is not base their abilities on standardized tests. They are important for the school system but they do not necessarily measure the student’s ability. Students have a lot of pressure on them to perform well on the tests by the school and as a teacher I need to let them know that it is important for them to perform well on them, but just because they did not score well on it does not mean that their ability is any less than a kid that did do well. The second thing I would do is not embarrass kids that might have disabilities. I will have kids at some point that have dyslexia or adhd and when they need help I don’t need to point out to the class that they need extra help. I can do something simple like pass out graphic organizers and tell the class they don’t have to do them, but talk privately with a student that is struggling and get them to do it. The last thing I would do is group the students properly. There should not be gifted students in one group and students with IEP’s in another group. They should be split up evenly. This will help students scaffold other students that need help, and create and environment where all the students are there to help each …show more content…
Relationships with other teachers- The first thing I would do is make sure I have a positive attitude with other teachers. Students see how we treat each other and positivity can only spread to the students. Students model us whether we want them to or not, and they do not need to see negative attitudes. The second thing I want to do is take the PLC meetings serious. This is for the students and the teachers. We develop lessons and make plans that should be beneficial to the students so it needs to be taken serious. If we as teachers are not on the same page, how can we expect the students to be? The last thing I would do is not discuss other teachers to the students. I have witnesses students bring up other teachers in a negative light and the teacher agree with them. This does nothing to help the students out. It hurts the positive environment we are trying to create. We are role-models for our students and if we can talk bad about or colleagues the students will do the same with their peers and so

According to the Lamar County School Student/Parent handbook,There are a number of factors are taken into account when computing a student's grade: homework, daily class work, neatness in preparation of work, promptness in completing work, projects, portfolios, and more. (41) Many classes focus particularly on the skills that require teacher observations (e.g. participation in cooperative group work) rather than grading paperwork. For this reason, attendance is also a factor to take into account when determining grades, because students need to be present in order to receive a grade for activities that require teacher observations such as group projects, whole class discussions, and more types of formative and summative assessments. Lamar County Public Schools have a 10 point grading scale and has four grade reporting periods for each school year. Students who are receiving a regular education, not special education, will have their school work assessed based on their grade level.…

When observing a special education classroom I am not only observing the class, but I am observing a glimpse into my future as a teacher. I was privileged enough to observe a multi-needs intermediate classroom with students who range from eight to ten year olds at Hope D. Wall School who have moderate to server learning disorders and physical handicaps. The purpose of the multi-need classroom is for the teacher to assess which path the student will take after the year is over. For an example some students might need more intensive guidance during their education, while other students attend life skills classes in order to prepare for life outside of school. While I was observing the class, I was fortunate enough to witness the students participate…

I feel that if a teacher orders students around they will be given less respect. If you keep them in line without being too controlling, they will be more effective listeners. I will create a type of democracy in which everyone will have a voice in their educational curriculum. Students should be allowed to have some sort of input into the type of education they are receiving. If they do not like something you are doing, you should take the time and listen to their ideas.…

Respecting one another will be an expectation in my classroom and there will be no tolerance for being disrespectful. I view students as equals because they are at school to gain an education and just like I expect them to listen and respect me I will do the same for them. They will learn better and listen if I demonstrate that I care for their best interest in learning. I do not believe that establishing a democratic classroom and giving students responsibility is letting them take over the classroom because students will have their own opinion, they are all unique individuals who not only learn differently but have a different way of thinking and allowing them to have a say in their own learning is not letting them control the classroom. It is the teacher’s responsibility to set rules and expectations in the classroom and control students who are repeating bad…
