“Rome has seven rail lines that reach the center of the city but they are not frequent enough provide service for people during the morning peak hour. There are only three that go every 15 min during the morning peak hour (Gori, Nigro and Petrelli 156). The bus transit has 315 frequency service lines, 39 fixed-time service lines, and 11 express lines but the express lines are also used by local traffic and other public transportation so the speed and reliability of the bus line isn’t as great. The frequency and fixed-time lines cover a large area so they aren’t frequent enough for people to use effectively (Gori, Nigro and Petrelli 157). Rome has a high level of automobile ownership which is more than 700 per 1000 people, this causes congestion on the road network. The most congested area is in a zone called the traffic limited zone, it is an area that only residential cars can be in. In the city there isn’t enough parking for all the cars. Also most of the private cars are more than 8 years old so they are inefficient and highly polluting.
