She would hunt food for her family. This helped her throughout the hunger games because she had much experience with it. Katniss is also very good at looting things that she needs for the games or survival. In the story, it shows many good examples about this and one of them is, I obediently consolidate the supplies I want into my pack. The annual Hunger Games, a competition in which twenty-four teenagers are forced into an arena to murder each other, is televised as entertainment to each of the twelve districts and the Capitol and is finally completed when a single victor remains alive. The protagonists Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark of The Hunger Games retain their humanity through their morality, their relationships and their response to injustice. Throughout the book, her intelligence is exemplified with her awareness of surveillance. First, Katniss was conscious of the cameras as soon as she volunteered to take Prim’s place. Kelley Wezner says, “… Katniss equates the cameras with self-control as she struggles to contain her tears so that she will not look weak to competitors during the evening of replays of her district’s reaping” (154). I believe Katniss was smart to hold back her emotions because if she didn’t she would have looked like an easy target to the other tributes and I also believe her ability to control her emotions at such a problematic time showed her mental strength and possibly helped her gain sponsors. The second example is during the first night in the games when Katniss is hiding out in a tree and she finds out Peeta is working with the careers.…

Being a physically talented woman allows her to make people believe that her side will ultimately be the winning one. This gives Katniss the ability to lead effectively, as those following her look up to her in part because of her strength. An effective leader will protect those they love and those who follow and believe in them. This is clearly demonstrated in Katniss’ first Hunger games. The Hunger games are a competition invented by the Capitol (the essential elite government) where a tribute from each district (the working classes) is drawn at random to compete to the death in a programmed arena until a lone victor remains.…

Gone are the extravagant dresses, make-up, and femininity as Katniss focuses on only one thing in the Games: survival. “It is interesting to notice how Katniss describes herself in HG15 (a ‘wild, wounded creature’), for it goes against the typical representation of a female protagonist, usually delicate and fragile,” (Pinheiro 158). She no longer exemplifies a feminine identity as she fights to survive in the arena, rather she returns to her pseudo-masculine role from District 12 as a hunter. “Katniss Everdeen must solitarily face danger, and use her hunter’s power to dominate others,” (Guanio-Uluru 217). Being a hunter gives Katniss power over her opponents in the Games and gives her an advantage.…
