B.) My Prediction of Future Successful Aging
My definition of successful aging is reaching old age in good health, independent and healthy social life. Successfully retiring from the postal service at age of 54, I’ve already began to experience aspects of the retirement phase. I firmly believe that age is only a number, so I don’t plan on allowing getting older to slow me down.
The strategies for reaching the successful aging stage will consist of maintaining good nutritional habits, moderate level of exercise versus a sedentary life and participation in my church life. As I continue my journey to that magical of 65, I plan to continue enjoying life by traveling to new places. It’s my plan is to have taken even more cruises before I reach 65. My work at the election polls won’t cease. Time permitting I hope to participate in civic activities in my community. …show more content…
Currently at the age of 60, I’m a very busy grandmother attending the grandkid’s activities. At 65, I feel I will be an even busier as a great-grandmother. I’ve always heard it said kids help keep you young at heart.
Also by 65, my education pursuit will have come to an end. I plan to be working in a new career in the psychology field. One of my dreams is to use my degree working with my fellow veterans or in the mental health field. After, spending the last couple of years aiding my parents because of their memory issue, I will seek volunteer opportunities with Alzheimer’s and dementia patients. However, my ultimate desire is to open a business that services the veterans dealing with mental health issues.
Having grown up in a large family, it never occurred to me to withdraw from the world. Being a member of the older age group and a retiree, I have the freedom to be selective about when I come and go. I’ve always enjoyed the peace and solitude to do the things you want to do. Relaxation for me can be at home watching a movie in my recliner or going to watch a Houston Texan’s game. So, yes, I will continue to continue an active life full of socializing, volunteer work, being with family, and going on trips. Remember the saying goes: “You are only as old as you feel.”
