The buzz word of today is moderation. They say you can do everything in moderation and maintain a healthy diet. But . . . for some people moderation does not work. Eating just one serving (about 12) potato chips or having a small serving of ice cream for dessert is nearly impossible.
If everyone were capable of eating all things in moderation, there would not be an obesity epidemic. If you know that you fall into the group of people who cannot eat all foods in moderation (be honest about this), elimination of unhealthy foods is a better choice.
It is common knowledge that alcoholics have to eliminate alcohol in order to survive. One drink will throw them back into dangerous territory and they will immediately begin to over indulge. Some individuals struggle with a similar problem when it comes to food.

The difference is that sugar is an acceptable “drug” of choice and heroin is not.
If you have any kind of sugar addiction, the best approach to dealing with it is the same as dealing with any addiction. You must first recognize and acknowledge that you have a problem and then break the habit. (I know it can be difficult, but I also know that it can be done because I have done it.)
If you choose to set a goal to eat more nutritious food so that you can enjoy a healthy body and a longer life, your sugar intake must be drastically reduced, or eliminated. So…. if you know that when you open a quart of your favorite ice cream, you will probably eat most (or all) of it in one sitting, stop buying ice cream. If it isn’t around, you can’t eat it. Find a healthy replacement snack instead. On the other hand, if you do not have a weight issue or any health issues and you are able to eat just one serving, more power to you. Enjoy the occasional
