WIC Impact Reflection
I. Date, time, place, setting. Purpose, focus of care This clinical took place on November 21st at the WIC clinic in Rock Valley, Iowa. The purpose of this clinic is to create partnerships with women, infants, and children in the community with the goal of meeting their individual nutritional needs. There were a variety of services offered at this clinic including a general check-up, dental screening, iron level screening, nutritional education and checkup, and other community resources. The WIC program requires regular dental, general health, and nutritional check-ups at these pop-up clinics. The WIC clinic collects information on the overall health and nutrition of their clients in order to provide supplemental nutrition to them. The assessment includes taking a height and weight on each client. Other assessment measures include hemoglobin checks and a subjective assessment. Each assessment is necessary for continued enrollment in the WIC program. Another part of community assessment that WIC incorporates into their program is education. WIC includes extensive education on general health and nutrition for each client. The education can be done in English or Spanish and it is a great resource for …show more content…
I had no prior knowledge about WIC clinics and the services that they provided. The employees were all very helpful and answered all of the questions that clients had. One thing I thought the employees could improve on is the correct use of the interpreters. Some of the clinic employees would talk directly to the interpreter, rather than the client and this hinders building good relationships with the client even though there is a language barrier. All of the employees did what they could to make sure that the clients’ nutritional needs were met. The WIC clinic employees truly were helping the least of these within this community and population and they were acting as the hands and feet of
