Employers are no longer providing the rich open network plans to their employees. Instead, many employer sponsored plans have smaller networks and the employee is responsible for paying more out-of-pocket expenses as the deductibles are now significantly high. Additionally, as the United States population ages into Medicare and Medicaid in many states is expanded, the opportunity for revenue for many healthcare organizations is shrinking. According to Kaufman (2011), with the diminished opportunity to shift costs, healthcare organizations need to maximize their ability to generate income now in order to fund long-term transformations. It is Kaufman’s belief that the primary source of income for the transformation is from cost-shifting. Companies that are successful implementing an ACO are ones that develop physicians, hospitals, and other care providers that are trained to provide highly effective and efficient care that is both of the highest quality and delivered at the lowest cost possible (Kaufman, 2011).

The adaptive strategies offer an organization the basic methods of achieving its vision by adapting to the environment. A healthcare organization may apply adaptive strategies by allowing its staff to grow their performance more than its complexity grows. In contrast, a market entry strategy indicates the technique of applying adaptive strategies through internal development and cooperation to deliver services to a target client base. A better strategy for a healthcare organization would be whether to source products, invest in or control a certain market. Competitive strategies, on the other hand, ascertain the strategic posture of an organization and identify the basis for competition.…

CMS (2015) informs us that in 1990's managed care plans managed reducing costs by negotiating discounts from providers and used lower cost settings (i.e., hospital versus ambulatory surgery center). As consumers required less restrictive care their utilization increased and such health expenditures increased. This is not because the managed care organizations (MCO's) have failed or they do not contain costs, it is a function of consumer demand. MCO's work diligently to control costs by ensuring the care is delivered in the safest cost effective setting, managing staff patient ratios, leveraging size to obtain the lowest possible price and standardizing the supply chain. MCO's can effectively manage costs, especially when compared…

American’s current health care system has become one of the nation’s leading controversial nuisance. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was originally created with morals of assuring every American individual’s right to attain health care regardless of financial circumstances or pre-existing conditions along with government support if needed. Unfortunately, amongst the fabricated promises of security and assistance, this fragmented system impels families to remain uncomfortable and stressed. The additional costs and hidden fees that are woven into health insurance contracts are becoming increasingly more unbearable with every passing year. Our health plan options are seemingly appearing less like decent choices and more like mandatory commitments.…

Trying to expand an organization’s operations may work against the cost leadership strategy as an organization seeks to keep its costs below the competition levels thereby making it hard for the management to control. A health care organization may outgrow its business models thereby watering down the projected annual budgets and costs thereby exposing itself to risks of insufficient operating capital and thus being unable to put up with competition. Cutting costs may also derive employees off incentive programs thereby lowering their morale. These challenges can be mitigated through seeking employee feedback on how to improve their morale and acquiring technologies that reduce staff fatigue. An 11% decrease in reimbursement rate equating to $5.8 million reduction in revenue threatens LCM’s viability. The need for creativity is needed for this organization. Tactical objectives are a twofold; revenue-generating strategies and cost-cutting efforts (Herman, 2012).…
