An increase in population growth, more births can mean fresh, sharper minds to lead the country to a stable and constantly increasing economic state and can thus be a good thing. Population growth is the increase in the number of individuals in a population while a population decline is vice versa, meaning it is determined by the decrease in the number of individuals in a population, (Statistics SA, 2016). The total number of population in South Africa was estimated at 55.0 million people in 2015, according to the latest census figures in the year of 1960, SA had a population of 17.4 million of people during that period. Furthermore, the population of South Africa represents 0.73 percent of the world’s total population which arguably means that one person in every 138 people on the planet is a resident of South Africa.
The above graph shows population growth rates in South Africa. According to it, in 2006 South Africa’s population was 48.27 million and in 2016 it is 56 million. The graph also shows how the county’s population has increased between 2006 and 2016, a period of 10 years. Throughout this period of time the population has grown slightly.

The breakdown of population in towns, cities, continents, countries, based on certain characteristics such as gender status, and age are also shown in the population
