Statement of Educational Goals and Philosophy
It is often said that the first impression you make on someone is the most important. It can never happen again and usually is not forgotten. I believe this is true for education also. Kindergarten or preschool is a child's first impression of school. Whether that impression is a good or bad one it will affect the child through the rest of their schooling. I was fortunate to have a great first impression of school which helped me to decide to become a teacher. There are many reasons why I have chosen Elementary Education as my major. Every situation requires a different approach or style. I will have a mixture between an authoritarian and non-authoritarian classroom. When it comes to organization I believe that to be effective and efficient you need to be organized. By planning ahead and having material prepared for the days task that leaves more time for interaction with the students and time that they will spend learning. However, I believe that a little spontaneity is also important because without it you lead yourself into boredom and you take your students with you. Motivation is a very important aspect for success in school. There are many ways to motivate children including giving rewards, allowing them to take an active role in their education and by just encouraging them to do the best that they can do. When children are motivated they are more willing to learn even if it is a subject that they are not so good at. Every teacher wants their classroom to run as smoothly as possible. The best way to have this happen is by setting rules and sticking to them. When students know what will and will not be tolerated they will cause fewer distractions. There should be few rules that are simple and fair. I believe that when students feel like they are being treated fairly they take a more active role in the class because they feel like they are a vital part of that class.
The best teaching style is one that involves teaching by using visual aides along with oral instructions.
