Two days before his death, Van Gogh went to paint, but he carried a loaded pistol with him, he shot himself in the chest, but the bullet did not kill him. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where his brother Theo came to visit him, they left the hospital a few days later, and Van Gogh died in the arms of his brother (Vincent Van Gogh). I have always been interested in Vincent van Gogh’s work ever since I found out that he went crazy, and he cut off his own ear lobe with a razor blade— in my middle school art class. Starry Night has always caught my attention. I remember when I first saw the painting, I was reading a children’s book that had a copy of Van Gogh famous piece and I fell in love with it. We all go through rough patches in our life, and for him painting was a way to release some of that negative energy that was built up over the years from his family and brother Theo. For me, it started at an early age in the kitchen when I was cooking with my dad, when I am in the kitchen cooking everything just seems to melt away all the stress of that day or the negative things around me just go away. I like to think that’s how Van Gogh felt when he was painting starry night. My dad owned his own restaurant and catering business and we would go as far as Florida to Tennessee for a catering job, but for my dad it was so much more than a job he loved what he did. He loved to make someone happy and make someone’s day after they ate his food. My dad was the type of guy that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.
