When something is illegal this means the government cannot tax it. The majority of the money the government makes is through tax revenue, and when they cannot tax seven percent of the worlds exports, then the government is losing an exponential amount of money. “Organized crime could weaken the economy with illegal activities (such as cigarette trafficking and tax evasion scams) that result in a loss of tax revenue for state and federal governments. This is particularly of issue given the current state of the country’s economic health. Fraudulent activities in domains such as strategic commodities, credit, insurance, stocks, securities and investments could further weaken the already-troubled financial market.” (Congress) This quote shows the different way that Organized Crime can and will hurt our already crippled economy if we continue to be quiet about Organized Crime, and just how big of an impact it really has on us. Money is not the only risk here, the people and the standard of living are also at risk. The truth is organized crime will never stop just like how crime will never stop. Although we can never end this fight, we however can create way to reduce the effects that organized crime has on our society. According to the United Nations some ways to stop this is to help spread awareness and take the necessary precautions in order to avoid become apart or an victim to Organized Crime. Another basic way to prevent organized crime is to tackle the root of the problem, parenting and childhood. Nobody is born with biases and the will to become a criminal. Almost all criminal like tendencies are created from the person 's background and childhood.
