The seedy underbelly of the internet, willingly sensationalized by television, radio and the internet itself is often the topic of discussion because it is true that bad news sells better than good news. The Dailydot.com is the Web’s most comprehensive source for original Internet-community news and among the fastest growing media companies in the world, posted an article on “Ten Terrifying Craigslist Crimes and Misdemeanors” (10 Terrifying Craigslist Crimes and Misdemeanors), that does not even begin to scratch the surface of crimes committed using one website alone. For various reasons, some of which I can understand and some I cannot, a large swath of the population seems to view social networking as wicked, but there is countless advantages to be taken into account as well. For instance friends are no longer just in towns that are close by, but from around the world where the cultural experiences are shared through photographs and videos being uploaded moments after they happen and allowing the world to experience a multitude of cultures first hand instead of by a single persons recollection. Social networking allows the global community to see not just the differences and similarities amongst people, but also the changes that many cultures are going through as they transition from old traditions to new ones. On a chat forum one can learn that the younger generations in areas such as Dubai no longer want arranged marriages but want to find someone they connect with and love. Social networking also effects how we share news and stories among our closer circle of online friends and family, and it is interesting to see what stories are shared when promoted by average citizens as opposed to a news producer searching for …show more content…

A vivid display can be seen in National Geographic’s photo gallery article ‘Your Shot Photos: Kitchens around the World.’ (Qiu, 2014).Photos of regular people preparing food from Romania to Rome, Zanzibar to Thailand, and France to Indonesia, the act of creating meals to feed families transcends cultural boundaries as is evident in all of the shared pictures.
