In recent years, organizations and communities have been changing the way they look at social technologies. In the beginning, social technologies were adopted for private and public usage. However, the companies saw the potential to use this technology in order to have a mutual sharing and interaction. The application of social technologies “Enterprise 2.0” also helped employees to improve their knowledge management techniques. Social interaction within an organization helps the creativity, productivity, innovation and new product development to increase. Using social media within an organization increased the acquisition of relevant information as well as the work quantity and quality.

This way, they also improve supplier loyalty and increase sales and revenues. Even though social technologies are considered for external usage, this case study is focused on its internal usage. Within the adoption of social media, organizations can improve their skills and the interaction of employees. This way, the employees can connect, inform and inspire each other. Thus, social media helps them to evaluate the available information and create connection with other people who have the similar needs, interests or problems. The target area was the ICT area with 600 employees in Italy. Eni’s main goal was to understand the needs and trends of its employees. Employees were asked to create their own profiles. This way, they could be able to share documents and have their own blogs that might be beneficial for some of the other employees. Additionaly, they were also asked to share their own ideas how to improve the ICT.

Knowledge management is a tool that the companies must use, in order to achieve the desired business results. Knowledge management will help the organizations to solve business problems and help them to get and utilize that proper
