This meant I had to start the argument, and I wanted to start strong. During my time at the stand, I brought out my strongest claims. The first thing I used was education. Education is something really important if someone wanted to climb the socio-economic ladder. With arguing my claim, I decided to use my evidence as the strength of the reasoning. In my research, I found on the website Brooking some information about why college was so important for social mobility. The research explained that many minorities living at the bottom of the socio-economic had a better chance of moving up the ladder with education. This made the debate more intense because I understood that the opponents would rebuttal about college debate. After my speech was done I was able to answer all my opponents questions. When it became their turn I was ready to rebuttal every claim they made. This technique made the debate more interesting for the class. Later down the debate for our last remarks, I used my second claim to finish the debate. I argued the rags-to-riches stories, saying that many people have surpassed their circumstances and climb the social-economic ladder. I used evidence about Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama to rebuttal the opponent claim on racial inequality. “There should be no excuse to why anybody else can’t make their way if they have hard work and dedication” were my last remarks. After the debate, the classroom judges felt that the affirmative team won the debate. Throughout my debate I felt I did a great job in understanding my claims and finding ways to rebuttal my opponents
